Eija Ranta’s artistic practice revolves around the movement of the living body, kinesthesia, and bodily experientiality. At the core of a moving body lies humanity, something that cannot be forcibly produced or consciously presented. In her works, the body serves as the primary tool for observing the inner and outer worlds. Her work has been presented in museums, galleries and festivals in Finland and abroad, including , Dutch Design Week (NL), La Fenice Art Gallery (HK) Oulu Art Museum (FI) and Bushwick Open Studios (NY).
Ranta holds a degree in acting from the Saint Petersburg State Theater Arts Academy and a master’s degree in Visual Culture and Contemporary Art from Aalto University’s School of Arts, Design and Architecture. Additionally, she has studied physical theater at The Commedia School in Copenhagen and modern and contemporary dance and choreography at Dance New Amsterdam in New York.
